What I was doing was…

Back on the writing gig, fleshing out one of my play’s secondary characters and her story -because right now it’s a bit thin on detail and her arc could be more dynamic. Wrote for half an hour starting with stream of consciousness stuff in her voice leading into her fundamental wants and needs and finishing on some ideas of how her scenes need to work for her story and not just the main character’s story. 10 hours sleep last night helped get me into the zone, as did starting with some open writing and using David Mamet’s dramatic premise thing to stimulate thinking about character goals and story (I recommend his book on story: ‘Three Uses of the Knife’). Feel so good having slept and spending some enjoyable time writing, rather than feeling like it’s a chore. Got a writing day on Sunday so looking forward to getting into this some more -redrafting, baby!
