What I was doing was…

Thinking about the play and its tone and atmosphere and what is the effect I want it to have on an audience. Wrote without hesitation about how I want it to feel and came up with some clear pointers on how to tweak character and refine the flow of the story. What really helped was keeping in mind the key moment near the story’s need which is rooted in a real experience, describing those feelings and then asking what needs to be in place for that moment to emotionally impact an audience -I picture myself watching that play and experiencing those feelings. This was an inspiring and useful exercise as it helped me reconnect with a source for writing the play and helped me consider the most important thing: how do I move the audience? I’m going to pick this up next week and do some work on clarifying aspects of the world of the story.
