What I was doing was…

Simply spending 15 minutes free writing to explore the world of my screenplay. Ended up writing about tome and the nature of the heightened reality of the story based on turning up the dials on things from my own experience. What helped was posing myself a question to kickstart the writing (in this case: what does it feel like to live in this world?) and opening and grounding the exploration by drawing on both my own experience and on films that inspire me which feel exciting and relevant to how they present reality. I felt excited and delighted at the possibility of freeing myself from being totally naturalistic and being a bit batshit -for some reason I had in mind the excellent ‘Sorry to Bother You’ by Boots Riley (see it, it’s brilliant). I left myself a follow on question on the page so I can pick up this thread next time.
